Healthy Habits to Start in 2021

A new year means a new start, an opportunity to improve and better ourselves. To make something a habit takes some time and practice. We surely know that there are so many things that we implement in our lives that are great, but actually doing them seems hard. We should realize that we probably won’t be able to complete all our new year’s resolutions in a month.

1. Dedicate Some Time for Yourself.

In life, we can feel like we need to always be doing something and working. The reality is that taking care of yourself is just as important. Taking breaks every once in a while to do something that you enjoy is very important for your mental health. It could be 10 minutes a day, or it could be during the weekend. However long it may be, and whatever it is that you are doing, make sure that you give attention to yourself and your mental health.

2. Stay Informed.

2020 has taught us that there is always so much going on in the world, some things we may not even be informed on. Knowing what’s happening only in our neighborhood or community isn’t enough; finding a reliable way to learn more about what’s happening globally is crucial.

3. Limit Screen Time.

Now that we’re always home almost all of the time and have nothing better to do, it has become a habit to spend hours on our phones, not to mention all the virtual meetings we attend on a weekly basis. Instead of picking up your phone first thing in the morning, try picking up a book or working out.

4. Practice Gratitude.

Different people express gratitude differently. Some express it by writing, others may just spend time thinking about it. Figuring out a way that works best for you and sticking to it can shift our attention from all the negative things occurring in the world around us to the positives in our lives.
